Bates Wells & Braithwaite sponsored the Suffolk Headway Cycle Ride which took place on Saturday 17th April 2010.

Headway provides a rehabilitative day service. All clients have bespoke care plans, facilitated by a team of brain injury rehabilitation assistants, and dedicated volunteers who encourage clients to realise their potential, increase their independence and help those skills lost as a result of their brain injury be regained. The service focuses on outcomes and goals which are set with the client.

Except for Henry VIII, divorce was a relatively rare event for most people until the second half of the twentieth century.  By 2008 however, predictions were that almost half of all marriages will end in divorce and only 10% of couples will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.  More than half of those break-ups involved children under the age of 16 and most of those were below the age of 5 years.

It is not surprising therefore that the number of “re-constituted families” is also on the increase and stepparents may enter a completely different minefield!  What are the rights and responsibilities with regards to children for example and does a stepparent have to use some of his income to pay maintenance to children who are not his whilst having financial obligations to his own children?
